The Yankee Intramural Open

What is “The Open”

AND 21.1 is………………….. If you’ve been around a while you know what i’m referring too. If not you’re about to learn! The CrossFit open is a worldwide competition that members of CrossFit gyms around the world participate in. You don’t need to be an elite athlete to participate – in fact most of the people that do the open are just like you! They take classes on a regular basis and simply want to take part in a fun community event!

So! The Open is 3 weeks long. On Thursday March 11th the first workout will be announced and we will do it in class Friday March 12. The same thing will happen for the next 2 weeks! The workouts have several variations, so there is a version of the workout you can do regardless of your ability! 

There is a scaled division, a foundations division (scaled a bit more than typical scaled), and a no equipment division for anyone working out at home.

You can sign up for the open at games.crossfit.com, but you don’t have to participate in the Yankee Intramural open (see next section). If you sign up, you will enter your scores online and be ranked vs your piers (age group).

This year, there is a new twist. The top 10% will move on to the “quarter final” which will happen the week after the open. The open is a part of the CrossFit Games season which eventually crowns the fittest person on earth. It’s a pretty cool thing to be able to do the same workouts they do for 3 weeks!

Don’t want to sign up online? No issues! You can still participate in our in house 3 week long event!

The Open At Yankee

We’ve created three teams. Coach Andrew, James, and Bam will all be the head of a team. You will all be placed on one of their teams, and the teams will compete against each other over the course of three weeks. 

But this isn’t purely performance based – you can get points for you team several ways!

Intramural Open Scoring

There are 5 ways you can earn points for your team! (1 point for each)

  1. Do the workout. Simply as that! Show up to class and do the WOD! 
  2. Wear your team’s color! Each team will have a color and you can get a point by wearing it to the workout!
  3. Finish top 5 overall!
  4. Win your age group for you gender  (open, 35-40, 40-45, 45-50, 50-55, 55-60, 60-64, 65+)
  5. Win your division (Rx, Scaled, Foundations)

But wait….. There’s prizes!

Prizes

If you complete all 3 weeks of open workouts you will enter into a raffle to win a Yankee swag bag!

The winning team will WIN. What’s better than winning?!? You’ll have bragging rights and be crowned winners of the 2021 Yankee Intramural open!

Make Ups

Can’t do the workout on Fridays? No worries! You can complete the workout on Saturday as well. We will have dedicated time for you to get it done!
